Each subject is shaped by forces that are invisible to the viewer: In Hill&Stump’s florals, the branches may bend towards sunlight, water plumps the leaves from roots below, or perhaps they are shaped by the wind. Like a strummed chord on a guitar, we see pulses of activity in Jill Joy’s Consciousness Series paintings. It may be sound or pure emotions that we observe in these works. Perhaps the colorful strata are created by water or wind… in Steven Florman’s sculptures, we see a pull towards something, or a push away, but always there is a solid grounding. The interaction and relationship between the wood and metal shows a clearly defined boundary in each piece. The growth, the rhythms, and the movement are all results of forces that are unseen in these works.
** Please note there will be a Padres game this day at Petco Park – please plan to come early downtown this day for the best parking options.
